Robert Russell Thompson

January 16, 1938 - June 15, 2022

Robert Russell Thompson, 84,Uncasville, CT, passed away unexpectedly on June 15, 2022, in Atlantic City, New Jersey while on vacation with his family. Robert was born on January 16, 1938, in Boston, MA. He was the son of the late Russell W. Thompson and Maxine Dyer Thompson. On January 16, 1979, he married the love of his life Eleanor (Elly) Thompson in Niantic, CT. During those 43 years of marriage, they traveled to over 30 countries and cruised all over the world together. He enjoyed the ocean and loved to boat and fish. He was an avid sports fan of the Yankees and the UConn Huskies women’s basketball team. Most of all, he loved watching his grandchildren play sports. In June of 1966 he began his Project Engineering career at Electric Boat. After almost 44 years of employment, he retired in January of 2000. He was a very handy man and used his engineering knowledge to build almost anything.  In his early retirement he and Elly moved to Bradenton, Florida. After years of enjoying the beach, they moved back to Connecticut where they resided in Niantic, North Stonington and eventually Uncasville. Robert was a loving and devoted husband, stepfather, grandfather, and great-grandfather. He is survived by his wife and four stepchildren, and their spouses named Michael and Sandy Christopher of Indialantic, FL, Ellen Christopher of Niantic, CT, Shelly Lawson of Ellenton, FL and Karen and Tom Morand of Griswold, CT.  He was the best “Papa” grandfather to Marcus, Jillian, Giana, Zach, Angela, Sean, Mariah, Stephanie, Randy, Ashley, Kelly, and Michael Anthony. As well as thirteen great grandchildren who he supported unconditionally and loved very much.
A memorial service will be held later.
