TRAFICONDA: Peter L. Traficonda, 83, of Waterford entered eternal life on Oct. 25, 2015 at home in the comfort of his loving family as were his wishes. He was born Aug. 24, 1932 in New London the son of the late Philip and Minnie (Bishop) Traficonda. He attended local schools and graduated from the former Buckley High School all so know as “Buckley boys”. He enlisted in the US air Force and was a Korean War veteran. It was where he meets his wife, Della Jean Way also serving in the US Air force. The were united in marriage on Jan. 15, 1955 on the Grand View Air force Base in MO. Mrs. Traficonda survives him. He was employed at Electric Boat for 35 years before retiring. He was a lifetime member of the Groton Sportsman Club and the Waterford VFW. He was a loving and devoted husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather. He was “Pop” to all of them as well to all their friends. Beside his beloved wife Jean of nearly 61 years, he is survived by four children. Cheryl Traficonda, Philip Traficonda, Melissa Burdick, Mary Bachant and husband Chris. Nine grandchildren; Jessica, Jayde, meloddi, Tiffany, Meghan, Alexandra, Olivia, Tyler and a special grandson Kyle, who he made his home with. Eight great grandchildren. He was predeceased by a grandson, Billy Adams. Two sisters, Phyllis Sherlock and Patricia Hammel. His family will receive relatives and friends on Thursday from 6 to 8 pm at the Impellitteri-Malia Funeral Home, 84 Montauk Ave. New London. The funeral will assemble on Friday at 9 am and proceed to a Mass of Christian Burial at 10 am in St. Paul Church, Waterford. Interment in St. Mary Cemetery with military honors.
