Petrini: Nevio Carl Petrini, 98, of Waterford entered eternal life on January 22, 2016 surrounded by his loving family. He was born on March 16, 1917 in New London, Ct the son of Raffael and Giovanna (Orazi) Petrini.

On July 8, 1942 Nevio enlisted in US Army and was assigned to the 163rd Engineer Combat Battalion. Their WWII mission was to build and maintain routes of communication, clear mines, construct bridges and secure the water supply in Europe. Before he left for Europe, however, he was united in marriage to Adriana Gori on March 19, 1942 in Hattiesburg, Mississippi. Nevio remained in the service after the war and he and his family traveled the world together from the Philippines Islands, to England, and to Germany. He retired at the rank of Lieutenant Colonel after twenty years of service.

He then built a home in Waterford and was employed by the US Government at Superintendent of Ships in Groton where he retired in 1972. After building another home in Waterford on the water he could be found on his lobster boat or mending his fishing nets in the backyard. He and his wife also enjoyed traveling to Florida every winter until he turned 90.

Besides his beloved wife, Adriana, of nearly 74 years he is survived by two children: Marcia (Petrini) Benvenuti, and Nevil Carl Petrini and his wife Gloria; three grandsons: Michael Petrini (Michelle), Marc Benvenuti (Keri), and Eric Benvenuti (Erica) and four great grandchildren: Mia and Max Petrini and Jake and Andrew Benvenuti all of Waterford.

He was predeceased by his four brothers Spartaco, Bruno, Lebro, and Arturo Petrini.

His family will receive relatives and friends on Tuesday, February 2, 2016 from 11:00am-1:00pm at the Impellitteri-Malia Funeral Home, 84 Montauk Ave, New London, Ct with military honors to follow. Interment will be private.
