Mildred E. Burke

New London — Mildred E. Burke, 87, of New London, entered eternal life Nov. 13, 2021, in the company of her loving daughter, Ronda Burke. She was born Jan. 29, 1934, in New London, the daughter of the late John and Mildred (Avilar) Gomes. She was a lifelong resident of New London and a graduate of the former Williams Memorial Institute Class of 1952. She was united in marriage to the late Raymond H. Burke on April 24, 1954, at St. Mary Star of the Sea Church.
She is survived by her children, Steven Burke (Susan), Ronda Burke, Michael Burke (Amy); five grandchildren, Steven Burke II, Lindsay Terry, Lauren Kevorkian, Kevin Burke, Adam Burke; four great-grandchildren; and sisters- in-law; Linda Cristofori and Barbara Gomes; as well as numerous nieces and nephews. Her brothers, Joseph Gomes and John Gomes, predeceased her.
Mildred served on the New London Community Meal Center Board of Directors where she was known as the soup lady, for the hours she spent there making vats of soup. She was a Catholic Charities Volunteer, a Communicant of Our Lady of Perpetual Help where she initiated the weekly food collection program and was a very active member of the Family Parish Group.
The family will receive relatives and friends from 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 18, at the Impellitteri-Malia Funeral Home, 84 Montauk Ave., New London, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 1 p.m. at Our Lady of Perpetual Help Church, Quaker Hill. Interment to follow in St. Mary’s Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations in her memory may be made to the New London Community Meal Center, 12 Montauk Ave. New London.
