New London – Louis N. Lupica of New London passed away April 26, 2022, at Greentree Manor in Waterford. He was born Dec. 13, 1955, in New London, the son of the late Cosmo and Lucille (Purpora) Lupica. Louis was a lifelong New London resident. He grew up in the Shaw Street and Moore Avenue neighborhood and lived in the family home the majority of his life. He was proud of his Italian Sicilian heritage and enjoyed many of the traditions growing up, most notably Sunday dinners with the family.

Louis attended Nameaug School in New London and played Minor League and Little League Baseball with his team, The Heaters. Many of his boyhood friends played on the same team. He graduated from New London High School with the Class of 1973. He was employed at Miner and Alexander Lumber Company for over 30 years. He was also employed by the City of New London Department of Public Works. He was a member of Saint Joseph Parish and the New London Lodge of Elks 360.

When Louis was not at his day job, he could often be found tending bar. Louis was a bartender at the Sandbar Lounge at Ocean Beach Park, Tony D’s Restaurant and the Elks Lodge in New London. He was a character behind the bar and was always smiling. If he decided to visit the bar as a patron, he was the first one to buy a round for his friends.

Louis enjoyed trips to Block Island during the summers. He also loved listening to music- the louder, the better. Some of his favorite artists were The Doobie Brothers, Eric Clapton and Steve Winwood. If asked what his favorite movies were, he would have told you that he had lost count of how many times he had seen Rocky and The Godfather.

Louis is survived by his sister, Joyce Pearson and her husband Steven Pearson of New London. He was the beloved “Uncle Louie” to Ursula Moreshead and her sons, Jack and Anthony; Stephanie Rangel and her daughters, Sunshine and Carmela and Kerrie Pennella and her daughter, Olivia. Louis also leaves behind numerous cousins in Connecticut, Rhode Island Massachusetts, California and Florida.

Louis’ family would like to extend a special thanks to the caring staff at Greentree Manor in Waterford.
