SMOLENSKI: Leila (McGarry) Smolenski, 84 of New London entered eternal life on Dec. 19, 2017. She was born Feb. 6, 1933 in Cleveland, Ohio the daughter of the late John T. and Isabel (Price) McGarry. Moving to New London at an early age, she attended local schools and graduated from the former Williams Memorial Institute class of 51. Leila worked for the State of CT as a secretary at the University of CT Storrs Campus, retiring in 1995. She was formerly an active volunteer, for the Chamber of Commerce, and a passionate New England Patriots fan. She is survived by six sons; David, Steven and Denise, Walter and Kathy, Daniel, John, Mark and Lisa Smolenski. Her thirteen grandchildren, nine great grandchildren, and her former husband Walter Smolenski. She was predeceased by a brother; Father Joseph McGarry, two sisters, Isabel McGarry and Clare Skelley, four granddaughters; Sasha, Tessa, Gabrielle and Amy Smolenski; and a daughter in-law Lauren Smolenski. Guests are invited to attend a Mass of Christian Burial on Saturday at 11 am in St. Joseph Church, New London. Interment to follow in St. Mary Cemetery and visiting hours are private. Donations in her memory, to Center for Hospice Care, 227 Dunham St. Norwich, CT 06360. The Impellitteri-Malia Funeral Home, 84 Montauk Ave. New London, has been entrusted with her care.
