Lawrence M. Saunders

Ogunquit, Maine – Lawrence Martin Saunders of Ogunquit, passed away on Thursday, Feb. 8, 2018.

He was born in New London, on Aug. 11, 1927, the son of the late Lawrence and Mary (Falvey) Saunders. He graduated from the former Chapman Tech High School, Class of 1946, and after graduation he joined the U.S. Army. Upon his return, he served on the New London police force as a supernumerary. He started his career with the New London post office and was appointed to the postal inspection division as regional postal inspector for the northeast region from 1957 until his retirement in 1982.

He is survived by his beloved wife, Dorothy (Sell) Saunders, of Maine and formerly of Watertown, Mass. He is survived by three siblings, Anne Hunziker and husband, John, Margaret Cotnoir and Frank Saunders; many nieces, nephews and great-nieces and nephews.

He was predeceased by brothers, Joseph, Louis and Clifford Saunders.

His family will receive relatives and friends from 5 to 7 p.m. Monday, at the Impellitteri-Malia Funeral Home, 84 Montauk Ave., New London. The funeral will assemble at 9 a.m. Tuesday and proceed to a Mass of Christian Burial at 10 a.m. in St. Mary Star of the Sea Church. Interment to follow in Cedar grove Cemetery with military honors.
