RUGGIERI: Joseph Vincent Ruggieri, 81 of Waterford entered eternal life in the comfort of his loving family at Lawrence & Memorial Hospital on Sunday, April 16, 2017. He was born in Waterford on Nov. 22, 1935 the son of the late Vincent and Josephine (Sireci) Ruggieri. Mr. Ruggieri graduated from New London High School in 1953. He was united in marriage to the former Angeline Aquitante on Aug. 23, 1958 in St. Mary Star of the Sea Church. Joseph owned and operated Jimmy’s Tire and Battery Service until 1958. He was later employed by the Town of Waterford’s Police Department for 36 years, and also held the role of motor officer for the department. He was named Policeman of the Year by the Waterford VFW Auxilliary #6573 in 1984-85, retiring in 1994. After his retirement, he owned JVR Enterprises and worked for Emergency Equipment. He was a Life Member of the Jordan Fire Company No. 1 and served as Assistant Chief. He was a member of the Pontiac-Oakland Club and enjoyed showing his 1977 Pontiac CanAm. Besides his beloved wife Angie of nearly 59 years, he is survived by a son, Thomas and his wife Susan of Groton. A daughter, Loriann Schenking and her husband Mark of Waterford. He was predeceased by his son, Joseph in 1990. His six grandchildren, Jaime Labbe, Amanda Ruggieri, Anthony and Morgan Ruggieri, Vanessa and Natalie Schenking. Four great-grandchildren, Dylan Roy, Nieko Labbe and Adreanah and Wyatt Sabolesky. A former daughter in-law; Donna Ruggieri of FL. He was predeceased by three sisters; Lucille Evans, Claire Mills and Marie Sireci. His family will receive relatives and friends on Thursday from 4 pm to 7 pm at the Impellitteri-Malia Funeral Home, 84 Montauk Ave. New London. The funeral will assemble on Friday at 9 am from the funeral home and proceed to a Mass of Christian Burial at 10 am in St. Paul Church, 170 Rope Ferry Rd. Waterford. Interment to follow in St. Mary Cemetery. Donations in his memory to Jordan Fire Dept., 89 Rope Ferry Rd.
