Joseph Perry, a devoted father, successful business owner, and avid traveler, passed away on February 10, 2024, at the age of 88. Born on February 9, 1936, Joe leaves behind a legacy of love, hard work, and cherished memories.

Joseph was born in New London, the son of Angelina Geaglone Perry and Joseph Perry, of Italian and Portuguese descent. As a young man, he lived in Waterford and was raised on a small, family farm at Cross Roads and Route 85.

He graduated from New London High School, Class of 1953. While in high school, Joe was a member of the school band where he excelled at playing the trumpet. Throughout the years, as a young man, he continued to enjoy music and entertained others with his musical talent.

Joseph attended Mitchell College in New London and then went to work at Electric Boat for 21 years in the Design Department, traveling to Holy Loch, Scotland and Hawaii for his job.

In 1976, he opened Perry Lathrop Auto Body in Waterford with his late partner, Jack Lathrop. Through perseverance and a commitment to excellence, they established an esteemed and well-respected business.

From an early age, Joseph had a great interest in cars. Being in the car repair business, he acquired a variety of vehicles that he restored and maintained over the years. Many days, he could be seen cruising around town in is red Camaro or his green Corvette.

In retirement years, he would spend time hanging out at his business with his sons, Randy and Todd, and chatting with customers and friends.

Over the years, he spent time with his partner, Barbara Endres. They spent time in Vermont at his winter retreat, snowmobiling and skiing. They also traveled to many destinations across the United States, vacations in Europe, and in recent years taking trips to Long Island in the summertime and to Florida in the winter where Joe liked the beach and people-watching.

The last five years, Joe thoroughly enjoyed spending time at his favorite place, at his beach house on the Niantic River. He enjoyed watching boats pass by, others participating in water activities, and the magnificent sunsets.

Joe was predeceased by his parents and beloved wife, Jean Perry, as well as his nephew, Scott Gwiazda.

He is survived by his son, Randy Perry and wife, Keri Perry; their son Joshua Perry, Todd Perry and wife Karen Perry, and their daughter, Maria Shyner and husband, Joseph. He also leaves behind his partner, Barbara Endres, and her children, Sean Endres, Monica Endres, and Michelle Gasparino and husband Michael as well as Barbara’s grandchildren, Briana, Garrett and Ryan. Joseph also leaves his sister Mary Ann Gwiazda, brother Emanuel Perry and wife, Debra, and their daughter, Amanda Perry Robinson.
