ALFIERO: Flora M. Alfiero, 91, of Groton, entered eternal life on Jan. 27, 2019 in the company of her daughter and granddaughter.  She was born June 29, 1927 in New London,  the daughter of the late Gennaro and Assunta “Susan” (Villano) Mauro.  She attended local schools and graduated from the former Chapman Technical High School in 1945.  Mrs. Alfiero worked as office manager along with her husband Tony Alfiero in family auto dealerships in Groton, Stonington, and later in Florida from 1965 to 1986.  She was a member of the former Italian Women’s Progressive Club, volunteered at the local hospital in Palatka, FL and St. Monica Catholic Church Ladies Auxiliary in Palatka. She loved cooking for her family and loved her trips to Italy. She is survived by son Jeffrey and wife Karen Alfiero of Tennessee, daughter Antonette “Dee” Lamperelli of Uncasville, sister  Carmella Savona of New London, four grandchildren, Dr. Elizabeth Lamperelli, DVM, Timothy Lamperelli, Christopher Lamperelli,  Antonio Alfiero, many beloved nieces and nephews, and a large extended family of cousins from Nocera Inferiore, Italy. She was predeceased by five siblings, Gerard Mauro, Philomena Buscetto, Ferdinand “Fred” Mauro, Maria Shallcross and Lucy Czekala.  Her family will receive relatives and friends on Friday (Feb. 1, 2019) from 4 pm to 7 pm at the Impellitteri-Malia Funeral Home, 84 Montauk Ave, New London.  Guests are asked to gather for a Mass of Christian Burial on Saturday, at 10 am in St. Mary Star of the Sea Church, 10 Huntington St., New London.  Interment to follow in St. Mary Cemetery. Donations may be made in her memory to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, 262 Danny Thomas Place Memphis, TN 38105.F
