Ledyard – Carl Ronald Lundberg, 89, passed away on the morning of Sunday, May 8, 2016.
He was born March 8, 1927, in Brooklyn, N.Y., to Carl A. Lundberg and Marion M. Lundberg.
Carl proudly served his country duringĀ World War II. He was a Naval air pilot flying missions in the Pacific Theater. He was highly decorated and honored for his service.
After his war service, he worked for a while at the F.B.I. in the D.C. area, where he met and married Ruth M. Lewis. They had three sons together. He left the F.B.I. to pursue a career in engineering. His new career allowed him to move his family from Maryland up to Connecticut, working at Electric Boat in Groton where he retired from.
His biggest passion in life, besides Ruth, was his golf. Mostly playing it whenever he found a chance or just happy watching it on TV while enjoying an ice cold Miller Lite with a shot of Wild Turkey. He also enjoyed taking his family fishing, playing card or board games, shooting pool down stairs or pitching horse shoes in the backyard.
He is survived by his three sons, Wayne (Diane) of Tennessee, Eric of Tennessee and Joe Sr. (Shelley) of Pennsylvania; his siblings, Everett (Fran) of Tennessee, Paul (Donna) of South Carolina and Linda of Maryland; and a sister-in-law, Bonnie of West Virginia. He had nine grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
Carl was preceded in death by his wife of 45 years; his sister, Doris and her husband, James Norris; and his brother, Allan.
A funeral service was held on June 3, at Fort Lincoln Cemetery in Brentwood, Md.
