BELLOS: William “Bill” T. Bellos, 85 of East Lyme formerly of Waterford, entered eternal life on December 6, 2021 in the company of his loving family. He was born April 9, 1936 in Sotira, Albania, the son of the late Thomas and Demetroula (Fotelli) Bellos. Bill came to the United States, with his family, at the age of twelve, settling in Southbridge, MA. He attended local schools, graduating from Mary E. Wells High School and later from UMASS Amherst with a BA in Civil Engineering, where he was a member of QTV Fraternity. He was united in marriage to the love of his life, the former Anastasia “Nancy” Nicolaou, on Sept. 1, 1963 in St. Sophia Hellenic Orthodox Church in New London. Nancy survives him. Bill was first employed at the Boston Naval Shipyard before moving to New London and working 38 years at the Navy’s Supervisor of Ship Building in Groton CT, where he received many accolades for his work as a Naval Architect. He was a faithful servant of St. Sophia. He served on the church board and as the treasurer for many years. He received the Ministry Award for Parishioner of the Year in 2007. Bill could always be found working in the kitchen with his buddies, Lou, Nick, Nick and Milton, during the annual St. Sophia’s Greek Food Festival. Bill was very proud of his Greek heritage. He was an avid bowler, bowling at the Holiday Bowl Ten Pin in Groton until the age of 80. He coached his sons at Waterford North Little League and the Waterford Preteen Basketball League. Bill was a big fan of the Boston Red Sox, the Celtics and Bruins, but he was the biggest loving fan of his grandchildren, attending all their school and sporting events. Later in life, Bill received the loving gift of life with a kidney donation from his daughter Demetra. Besides his beloved wife Nancy, he is survived by his three children, Demetra and David Sutera of Waterford, Thomas and LeAnn Bellos of Ivoryton, Stephen Bellos of Waterford and Ellen Bellos of Waterford. Seven grandchildren, Brittany (Jake), Thomas, Logan, Samuel, Abigail, Cooper, Evie and he was looking forward to his first great grandchild in March. A sister, Alice and Constantinos Poulios of Waterford, brother in-law, Andre Lazure of Southbridge, Massachusetts, sister-in-laws, Dimi Keramidas of North Carolina and Katherine Nicolaou of Florida and many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his sister, Helen Lazure, sister-in-law Pamela Generis and brother-in-laws Nick Keramidas and Tom Nicolaou. Bill’s family and friends meant everything to him, and he will be greatly missed. His family will receive relatives and friends on Thursday morning from 10 to 11am at St. Sophia Hellenic Orthodox Church, 200 Hempstead St., New London, followed by funeral service at 11 am. Interment to follow in, Cedar Grove Cemetery. The Impellitteri-Malia Funeral Home, 84 Montauk Ave., New London has been entrusted with his care.
