Tyce Shawn Shelburn, 39, of Waterford, CT passed away on July 11, 2017.  His death is an immense loss for his family, friends, and community, as he touched the lives of everyone whom he encountered.

Tyce was very academically inclined and a great thinker, often pondering complex theories which he shared with his son.  He attended Central Connecticut State University, where he studied Mechanical Engineering.   Following college, Tyce became a respected Mechanical Systems Engineer, who had a full career working for several respectable companies, including General Dynamics where he spent the bulk of his profession.

Tyce was a proud resident of Waterford, recently returning to his hometown after his time spent in Shelton, where he grew very close to his wife’s family and impacted his community.  Tyce was welcomed with open arms by his wife’s close-knit family, immediately becoming beloved by all.  His jokes, approachable nature, and refusal to let any Italian language barrier damper a good time were such a delightful addition to family gatherings and holidays.   Tyce was a passionate, outgoing, kind, and humorous man.  He was a proud and involved father to his son, Desmond and loving husband to his soulmate and wife, Milena.  This small family unit was very close.  They could often be found together on their boat, fishing, skiing, coaching/traveling for their son’s soccer games, taking family vacations, working on a new project, or numerous day outings.

Tyce’s welcoming demeanor and desire to make others laugh warmed the hearts of all.  He could talk to anyone on just about any topic.  One minute he could be discussing the inner workings of advanced submarine technology, and the next he would make a hysterical unexpected comment or goofy facial expression just to put a smile on someone’s face.  He was always up for anything and willing to lend a helping hand, from holding open a door to lending out his ski equipment; from belting out Sweet Caroline at a wedding to intense FiFa tournaments; from a last minute visit to a planned trip to Smuggler’s Notch; from family road trips with the guys to horsing around with the kids.  Tyce was fascinated with the world around him, always taking an interest in shared topics and self-initiated learning.

Tyce is survived by his wife and son, Milena and Desmond Shelburn; his parents Linda Donovan Shelburn and Tyce V. Shelburn with wife Julie Shelburn; 2 siblings and their spouses, Kevin and Shayna Shelburn and Andrea and Jamie Ibrahim; 1 brother-in-law and his wife Fabio and Eileen Ciampini;  2 grandmothers Hazel Donovan and Marzietta Sellari; 5 nieces and nephews Kayla, Avianna, Joseph, Nikolas and Liana; his in-laws Michelina and Franco Ciampini, as well as many cousins, other relatives and friends.

Services in Tyce’s honor are being held by the Impellitteri-Mali Funeral Home in New London.  Calling hours will be on Thursday, July 20th from 4 p.m. – 8 p.m.   Additionally, a memorial mass will be held on Saturday, August 12th at 11:00 a.m. at St. Joseph’s Church in Shelton.  In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions will be used for funding Desmond’s College Fund.
