TONUCCI: Thomas W. Tonucci, Sr. 78 of Waterford entered eternal life on Feb. 16, 2017 in the company of his loving family. He was born oct. 21, 1938 in New London the son of the late Fernando and Gemma (Montanari) Tonucci. He attended local schools and graduated from New London High School class of 1957. He served in the Army National Guard, and was honorably discharged. He was, united in marriage, to the former Dorothy Luzzi on April 28, 1961 in St. Joseph Church, Mrs. Tonucci survives him. Mr. Tonucci worked for Electric Boat as superintendent, of the north yard pipe shop, retiring after 38 years. He was a communicant of St. Paul Church and life member of the New London Lodge of Elk’s #360. He coached at New London National Little League at Michell Woods, Waterford Babe Ruth and Waterford Youth Football. An avid duck pin bowler bowling in leagues at the former Family Bowl where he held numerous records in CT State Duck Pin Bowling. Tom was a loving and devoted husband, father, grandfather and a special uncle and godfather. A humble and kind man with exceptional values he passed on to his son’s, grandchildren, and epitomized the term, a gentleman. Besides his beloved wife Dorothy of nearly 56 years, he is survived by his two sons; Thomas and wife Shawn Tonucci of Griswold, Scott and wife Kathleen Tonucci of Waterford. Two grandchildren, Logan and Nolan Tonucci. A brother, Norman Tonucci of NC. Family and friends are asked to gather for a Mass of Christian Burial on Saturday at 10 am in St. Paul Church, 170 Rope Ferry Rd. Waterford. Entombment in St. Mary Cemetery Mausoleum, with military honors. At Tom’s request, private viewing for family only. Donations in his memory to, Wounded Worrier Project, PO Box 758516, Topeka, KS 66675-8516. The Impellitteri-Malia Funeral Home, 84 Montauk Ave. New London, has been entrusted with his care.
