BUCETTAS: Robert Joseph Bucettas, Jr. 85 of Oakdale, entered eternal life at home on May 4, 2017 in the comfort of his loving family. He was born June 10, 1931 in Brooklyn, NY the son of the late Robert and Helen (Brandenburg) Bucettas, Sr.   Mr. Bucettas, Jr. served in the US Navy during the Korean War and was honorably discharged. He was united in marriage to the former Joan McGuire on Aug. 12, 1955 in Queens, NY, Mrs. Bucettas predeceased him. He worked for the US Government in the Civil Service in the Brooklyn Naval Yard, moving to the area in 1970 working at the Underwater Sound Lab in New London before retiring. He was a member of the Tin Can Sailors Club. Fondly embracing his memories with the Navy, he was a life member to Mystic Seaport and enjoyed kayaking, swimming and anything that brought him close to the water. He looked forward to traveling to all the reunions which he participated in with the U.S. Robert Owens, the ship which he proudly served. He is survived by two children, Frank and wife Marlene Bucettas of Canterbury, Margaret “Peg” Hansen of Waterford. Two grandchildren, Sean Furlow, and Kathleen Brown. Two great grandchildren, Andrew, and Jacoby Brown. He was predeceased by a brother, William Bucettas. His family will receive relatives and friends on Monday from 6pm to 8pm at the Impellitteri-Malia Funeral Home, 84 Montauk Ave., New London. The funeral will assemble on Tuesday at 9am and proceed to a Mass of Christian Burial at 10 am in St. Mary Star of the Sea Church, 10 Huntington St., New London. Interment to follow with military honors in St. Marys Cemetery.

The family would like to especially thank those who made his final time a memory of such peace. Care at Home, especially his best friend and care giver, Zie, along with Hospice of Southeast Connecticut, and the care and compassion from his nurse, Dawn.
