SMITH: Robert Charles Smith, 85 of Oakdale entered eternal life on Jan. 14, 2016 in the comfort of his loving family. He was born Aug. 19, 1930 in New London, CT the son of the late Charles and Marsha (Higgins) Smith. He served in the US Navy and was honorably discharged. He was united in marriage to the former Antoinette “Toni” Falconi on Oct. 29, 1949 in St. Joseph Church, Mrs. Smith survives him. Mr. Smith “Boomer” worked at Electric Boat in Groton as a senior instructor for 38 years, retiring in 1991. He served as president of EB Management Association and founded Toy’s for Kids for local charity, which is still continuing under the direction of his daughter Diane. Besides his beloved wife of 66 years. He is survived by four children. Kathleen (Lee) Stern of Niantic, Robert C. (Jennifer) Smith, II of East Lyme, Stephanie Cohen of NY and Diane (Peter) Simoneau of Ledyard. A sister Mary Jane Campagna of East Lyme, eight grandchildren, and a great-grandchild. His family will receive relatives and friends on Monday from 6 to 8 pm at the Impellitteri-Malia Funeral Home 84 Montauk Ave. New London. Family and friends are to gather for a Mass of Christian Burial on Tuesday Jan. 19, 2016 at 10 am in St. Joseph Church, 17 Squire St. New London. Entombment in St. Mary Cemetery Mausoleum with military honors. In lieu of flowers, donations in his memory to Oakdale Volunteer Fire Dept., 444 Chapel Hill Rd. Oakdale, CT 06370.
