NENNA: Robert “Bob” Nenna, Sr. 79 of New London entered eternal life on April 19, 2016. He was born July 14, 1936 in New London the son of the late Anthony and Emily (Eillas) Nenna.

Bob attended local schools and graduated from New London High School class of 1954. He enlisted in the US Army, a Korean War veteran and was honorably discharged. He was united in marriage to the former Mary Long on Oct. 5, 1963 in St. Mary Star of the Sea Church in New London.

Bob was a firer fighter for New London Fire Dept. for 25 years, retiring in 1988. He was active in coaching for New London Little League and New London Youth Football. In addition, he served as an assistant coach for the New London High School Football Program for 20 years.

He was a member of the Local 1522 Fire Fighters Union, the F.L. Allen Hook & Ladder, Truck Company #1, Volunteer Fire Company and a member of the New London Lodge of Elks # 360.

Besides his beloved wife Mary, of nearly 53 years, he is survived by two sons, Robert Jr. and wife Joy of Newington and Edward and wife Heather of Uncasville. He is also survived by four adoring grandchildren: Abigail, Jack, Joseph and Jake as well as two siblings, A. Tony Nenna of Westerly, Rhode Island and Joyce Hunter of Florida.

Bob will always be remembered for his love and loyalty to the City of New London as well as his generosity and kindness to those around him. His commitment to the youth of New London through his coaching was exemplary. He will be remembered for how much he loved his brothers-in-laws past and present and how much he cared for his friends especially his morning coffee crew, his dedicated service to the New London Parks and Rec Commission, and his love for his grandchildren.

His family will receive relatives and friends on Thursday from 5 to 8 pm at the Impellitteri-Malia Funeral Home, 84 Montauk Ave. New London. The funeral will assemble on Friday at 9 A.M. and proceed to a Mass of Christian Burial at 10 A.M. in St. Mary Star of the Sea Church. Entombment will be at St. Mary Cemetery Mausoleum with military honors. Donations can be made to the Childhood Apraxia of Speech Association of North America (CASANA) apraxia-kids.org
