Ellington – Randall Alan “Randy” Arms Sr., 73, of Ellington passed away May 14, 2021. Randy was born Nov. 28, 1947, in New London, the son of the late Fay and Juliet (Dipollina) Arms.

He attended De La Salle Academy in Newport, R.I., and graduated from St. Bernard High School and Mitchell College. He worked for Greyhound in New London while in school, then 16 years for Pratt & Whitney Aircraft and later as fire watch at Millstone Power Plant before retiring.

Randy had a passion for animals that included everything from spiders, snakes, and birds to cats, dogs, and horses. He grew up on the family farm in Waterford and as an adult, bred quarter horses with his brother Gary and the late Fred Faulkner. Even though his quick wit, and dry sense of humor could quickly make him the center of attention. His brother Gary and sister Donna knew that when Randy visited, it was to bring toys and treats for the dogs and cats, not to visit with humans.

Randy will be buried with the ashes, of his own beloved dog Maggie. Randy also loved riding his Harley Davidson, always drove a truck, and enjoyed reading a good mystery or historic fiction. He enjoyed competing with players on Jeopardy, following UConn women’s basketball and golf during the Tiger Woods years.

He is survived by his longtime companion Gay Szumyk; his son Randy Alan Jr.; grandsons, Randall Alan III (Trey) and Aiden; his sister Donna and brother Gary; as well as brother-in-law Bill; sister-in-law Shirley; nieces, Kim and Snooks; nephew Jon; grandniece Falicia and her son Daniel.

His family will receive relatives and friends from 11 a.m. to noon Friday, at the Impellitteri-Malia Funeral Home, 84 Montauk Ave., New London followed by a prayer service. Interment to follow in, St. Mary Cemetery, New London.

In lieu of flowers, donations in his memory to aspca.org
