Waterford – It is with profound sadness that we share the passing of Philip A. “Drew” Rahilly Jr., 35, who left us unexpectedly early Sunday, May 8, 2022, at his home in Waterford. His beloved dogs Maisy and Petey were by his side.

Born August 2, 1986, in New London, Drew was the son of Dawn (Greenblott) Rahilly and the late Philip Andrews Rahilly Sr. Drew grew up on the beach in Neptune Park in New London, where he enjoyed his summers playing wall ball with his dear friends and family. An ardent lover of baseball, Drew spent his entire youth playing for the New London Little League, American Legion Baseball and New London High School. He was an all-star catcher who brought passion, determination and gusto to every game he played. He was a die-hard fan of the New York Yankees, and watching them play with his father was one of his greatest pastimes. Upon graduating from New London High School, Drew went on to start a family of his own with Erica (Ripley) McCarthy.

In addition to his mother, Dawn G. Rahilly of Waterford, he is also survived by his sister, Elle F. Rahilly of New London; and his son, Jack David Rahilly, whom he considered to be his greatest accomplishment and was his pride and joy. Drew will be greatly missed by his uncles and aunts, The Honorable Mathew and Margaret Greene of New London, Dr. David and Jane Greenblott of Newburyport, Mass., Jon and Molly Wenc of Waterford, Eric and Kim Wenc of Wilmington, Vt., Julie Greenblott of New London, Susan Rahilly of Brookline, Mass., and Anne Crawford of Holliston, Mass. Drew is also survived by an army of adored cousins and his beloved dogs, Maisy Dae and Petey Betts Rahilly, along with too many loved buddies to mention.

Drew was predeceased by his father, Philip Andrews Rahilly Sr.; his grandparents, Karen and Edwin Wenc and Fredric Greenblott, and Bernard and Anne (Schaff) Rahilly; his uncles, John Rahilly, David Rahilly and Ted Greenblott; and his aunt Elizabeth (Rahilly) Bukuvalas.

Drew was a handsome man and a gentle soul with a million-dollar smile, an infectious laugh and a heart of gold. He could cut up a dance floor like nobody else and lit up every room he walked into. He had a deep and profound love of all animals. In addition to his generosity, loyalty, kindness and compassion to all, Drew will be remembered for his incredible sense of humor.

Calling hours are from 5 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, May 11, at Impellitteri-Malia Funeral Home, 84 Montauk Avenue, New London. Funeral services will be private. Donations in Drew’s memory can be made to Mona’s House at 704 Gungywamp Road, Groton, CT 06340 or to New London High School Baseball, care of Athletic Director, at 490 Jefferson Ave., New London, CT 06320.
