MALCHIK: Attorney and retired state police detective, Michael W. Malchik, 70, of Salem, passed into eternal rest on Saturday, May 14, 2016, at Lawrence + Memorial Hospital surrounded by his loving family.
He was born Dec. 22, 1945, in Worcester, Mass., the son of the late Michael and Marilyn (Clark) Malchik. Mr. Malchik graduated from Waterford High School, Class of 1965. He served on the Waterford Police Department for three years. He then entered the CT State Police Department where he served for 22 years. During his career, he was promoted to detective and assigned to the Major Crime Squad. He was most proud of his time with the Major Crime Squad with the arrest of serial killer Michael Ross and Edward Sherman of Niantic. His remaining time with the state police was spent with the Fugitive Squad and the States Attorney Office. He received his bachelor’s degree from New Haven University and in 1994 received his law degree from Quinnipiac University.
He is survived by his beloved wife of 44 years, the former Judy Richardson. He is also survived by two daughters, Sue Marsh of Londonderry, N.H. and Lisa Staunton of Norwood, Mass.; and five grandchildren, Shannon, Brandon, Caitlin, Norah and Delaney.
Family and friends are asked to gather for a memorial service at 10 a.m. Monday, May 23, 2016, at the Flanders Baptist Community Church, 162 Boston Post Road, East Lyme.
