Maureen West Miceli

New London – Maureen West Miceli, 85, passed away peacefully at home on Nov. 26 surrounded by her loving family. She was born March 24, 1938, to Stephen and Irene (Gilligan) West in New London. Maureen grew up in Groton and graduated from Fitch High School in 1957. After graduation, she went to work at Arwood Corporation as a clerk typist. On June 10, 1961, Maureen married Vincent J. Miceli, enjoying 53 years together until his passing in 2015. Maureen retired from the New London Public Schools, after 28 years as the System Fiscal Coordinator of the Child Nutrition Program.

Maureen enjoyed reading, playing cards, bowling, watching UConn women’s basketball and attending CT Sun games. She especially enjoyed being with her grandchildren.

In addition to her husband, she was predeceased by her parents; her brothers, Paul, Stephen, Michael and John West; and her sisters, Majorie Herraes and Rita Burge. She is survived by her sister Claire West; her two sons, Stephen (Jerry) and Michael (Peggy); her grandchildren, Shanna (Terrence) Hargrove, Stephen Miceli Jr. and Samantha (Logan) Smith; great-grandchildren, Sa’Mya and Arabella; and a host of nieces and nephews. She was a communicant of St Joseph’s Church. In lieu of flowers please consider donating to a local animal shelter.

According to her wishes there will be no calling hours. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Thursday, Nov. 30, at St. Joseph’s Church in New London, followed by interment at St. Mary’s Cemetery.
