Mary Anne Teehan Horn was born on September 10, 1952 in Waltham, MA to US Army Col. Paul A. Teehan and Anne O’Neil Teehan. She would soon be followed by seven siblings; Paul Jr., Kathleen, Maureen, Margaret, John, Anne, and Neil. Between living the life of an Army brat and helping with her younger siblings, there was never a dull moment for Mary.

After graduating from Holy Cross High School in Riverside, NJ, Army life took Mary to Bayside, Queens, New York, to Fort Totten where she worked for Blue Cross/Blue Shield in Manhattan and met Military Policeman Lawrence Horn of Fishers Island, NY. They dated for three years before marrying at Fort Meade, MD on May 18, 1975, and moving to Connecticut. There life was put on hold while Larry worked as a pilot, before they moved to Fishers Island and Mary worked at the Utility Company, where she became office manager for 46 years. The move was not made without some tears, the more quiet, sedate tone of island life conflicting with a house full of family and friends and moves every three years along the East Coast, Midwest, and Germany.

But Mary was nothing if not adaptable and over time truly made Fishers Island her home, becoming involved in the volunteer Fire Department as an EMT, secretary of the Sportsmen’s Club, parish council of Our Lady of Grace Catholic Church, school board, Walsh Park, and Island Health Project. When not working or volunteering, she enjoyed beach glass combing, cruising to the East End, and “thiefing” daffodils when they bloomed every spring. She also made sure to make regular trips back to Maryland to visit her family and indulge in another favorite pastime, shopping.

Mary passed away at her home on September 11, 2021 after a brief illness and is survived by her husband, Larry, and daughter, Lindsey.

Family and friends are invited to attend the memorial service on September 25th at 11:30 AM at Our Lady of Grace Catholic Church on Fishers Island. Internment and reception to follow at the American Legion. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Island Health Project, Inc. PO Box 344, Fishers Island, NY 06390 or www.islandhealthproject.com.
