Kermit “Joe” B. Miller, Jr., 90, of Waterford entered eternal life on November 16, 2022. He was born October 30, 1932, in New London, the son of the late Kermit Miller, Sr. and Josephine (Gargano) Siragusa Miller. He attended St. Mary’s School and Chapman Technical High School. He enlisted in the U.S. Navy and was honorably discharged in 1955. He married Juanita Hales on September 29, 1956, at St. Mary Star of the Sea Church. She predeceased him on January 31, 2016. Joe worked for General Dynamics Electric Boat Division as a shipfitter, retiring as a supervisor after 40 years of service in 1996.

He is survived by his sons and their spouses, Glen and Ann Miller of Waterford, Kevin and Gail Miller of Quaker Hill, Bruce and Diane Miller of Waterford. He also leaves behind his six grandchildren, Kimberly Kirkegard and her husband Chris, Erin Miller, Emily Miller, Amy Boyle and her husband Ryan, Ryan Miller, and Rachel Miller as well as two great-grandchildren Ainsley Boyle and Levi Kirkegard. He was predeceased by his mother-in-law, Mary Chambers, and his siblings, Angelo Siragusa, Geraldine Newcombe, and Mary Pine.

While his sons were growing up, Joe was active in Waterford youth sports serving as a baseball coach for Waterford Little League South, Waterford Babe Ruth, Waterford Pee-Wee Football, and YMCA Pre-Teen Basketball. Upon retiring, Joe umpired baseball games for many years for Little League and Babe Ruth. He was awarded the Waterford High School Booster Club Award in 1994 and was inducted into the Waterford High School Athletic Hall of Fame in 2016.

His family will receive relatives and friends on Monday, November 21 from 5 to 7 p.m. at the Impellitteri-Malia Funeral Home, 84 Montauk Avenue, New London. There will be a Mass of Christian Burial on Tuesday, November 22 at 11 a.m. at St. Mary Star of the Sea Church, 10 Huntington Street, New London. Interment to follow at Jordan Cemetery, Waterford.
