DUVAL: John J. Duval, 75 entered eternal life on May 22, 2021 at his home in New London in the company of his beloved husband Robert Briggs. He was born Nov. 8, 1945 in New London the son of the late Omer “Pete” and Stella Rose (Brokowski) Duval. John knew the value of hard work, with one of his early jobs as produce manager at the former Finest Grocery Store in New London. His gregarious personality made him the perfect owner of Frank’s Place, a popular nightclub in new London. His warm heart and caring nature gave way to a large extended family. John was a residence and friend in the community during the uncertain early years of AIDS epidemic. He was happy to provide a safe place to gather, along with a cast of wonderful friends, and colorful performers. John organized fundraisers for those living with HIV and related AIDS research. These were attended by, local politicians, and all members of our community. On the lighter side, he sponsored a softball league from his club. John was especially proud of his Polish heritage and Roman Catholic faith. This was so beautifully displayed with the care and devotion to his mother Stella. John had a rich full life, enjoying travel and took pride in his garden. Besides his husband, he is survived a special cousin, Barbara Brown. A longtime friend Don Wright, his friends and, care givers, William Hildrith, Tanja Gonzalez and Christopher Wilczek. Brother and sister in-laws, Diana Louis-Briggs, William and Amarilis Briggs, Joseph and Marie Briggs, John Briggs, Sr., Thomas and Cathy Samokar, David and Lorrell Wilczek, George and Lisa Carr, mother in-law Dorothy Briggs and numerous cousins. Besides his parents, he was predeceased by a close friend, David VanDyne. A special thanks to Masonic Care Hospice In memory of John, be kind to yourself and others. Accept our differences and realize we are all more alike than different. His family will receive relatives and friends on Wednesday from 5 to 8 pm at the Impellitteri-Malia Funeral Home, 84 Montauk Ave., New London. The funeral will gather on Thursday at 10 am and proceed to a Mass of Christian Burial at 11 am in St. Joseph Church. interment in Maplewood Cemetery, Norwich.
