Quaker Hill – Joan Mugovero Savard, beloved wife of Andre Savard, passed away peacefully Friday, April 29, 2022, at Mystic Healthcare Nursing Home. Joan, daughter of Joseph Mugovero and Josephine (Sullivan) Mugovero, was born Sept. 30, 1935, and raised in New London.

Joan graduated from the Williams School in New London, and later Katherine Gibbs Secretarial School in Rhode Island. She worked in civil service for both the Sub Base and the Coast Guard Academy before her marriage in 1957, to Andre Savard, whom she first met when purchasing shoes from him at Savard Bros. for a Coast Guard formal! Joan also worked at Lawrence + Memorial Hospital for many years, and was a communicant of Our Lady of Perpetual Help Church in Quaker Hill. Joan and Andre resided in Quaker Hill, for over 60 years.

She is survived by her four children: Kathy Archambault of Waterford, Ellen Lucoff (husband David) of Parkland, Fla., Susan Daniels (husband Harold) and William Savard, both of Quaker Hill; six grandchildren: Kristen Chapman, Matthew Chapman (wife Chelsea), Cody Chapman (wife Elana), Lindsay Bollenbach (husband Ryan), Griffen Archambault and her favorite, Stephanie Daniels. Joan also leaves behind six great-grandchildren: Reid, Colin, Hadley, Isla, Taelyn and Jack.

Some of the fond memories were having family, neighbors and friends at their backyard pool which was enjoyed for many years. Both Joan and Andre enjoyed many wonderful trips together. Joan was very fortunate with great friends and enjoyed daily walks with her neighbors, Jeanette Astrauskas and Joan Dunbar, boating with Cathy Potter, shopping and the beach. Best friends from teenage years included Ernie Cox and Mary Ellen Hanrahan. Joan will be missed by her brother and his wife, Richard and Judy Mugovero; and her two nephews, Michael and Jim Mugovero.

A Celebration of Life will be held at 4 p.m., Saturday, May 7, at Langley’s in Waterford for family and close friends. The family would like to thank the caring staff at Mystic Healthcare and Beacon Hospice. Donations can be made to Beacon Hospice, 111 Founders Plaza, Suite 1803, East Hartford, CT 06108.
