Jean Shirley DiMaggio , 77, passed from this life on March 7, 2017 to join her beloved family.  She was born in New London on February 29,1940 to Concetta Mary (DiMarco) DiMaggio and Leo DiMaggio, the youngest of four children.

Jean grew up in New London and attended St, Joseph’s school. She could typically be found “making the rounds” in the company her mother, her Aunt Rose DiMaggio, and her Aunt Nancy Lavariere visiting friends and family. From the time she was a young child she greatly loved and admired her older sister Margaret and in recent years greatly missed this special bond.

Jean especially enjoyed playing Bingo and volunteered at Lawrence and Memorial Hospital where she was recognized as Volunteer of the Year.  She always loved young children and delighted in the company of her great-nephews and great-nieces.

Jean endured some significant health issues. She was a proud cancer survivor and in her later years was stricken by dementia, prompting her to move to the Groton Regency Retirement Center and ultimately Fairview in Groton.

Jean was predeceased by her parents, her sister Margaret Laro Stanton, and her bothers Leo “Sonny DiMaggio and Richard “Dick” DiMaggio. Her cousins; and nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews survive her.

Funeral arrangements are private. Donations in Jean’s memory may be made to The Children’s Cardiomyopathy Foundation; PO Box 247, Tenafly, NJ 07670, (www.childrenscardiomyopathy.org)
