Waterford – James H. Driscoll, 78, loving husband of Catherine M. Driscoll for 34 years, passed away Sunday, November 6, 2016. Jim bids farewell to those who befriended him throughout his life. He cherished the relationships he made and friends he encountered along the way. Born on December 17, 1937, in Cincinnati, OH, to the late Arriest Tanner, he joined the U.S. Navy after graduating from high school, and served from June 18, 1956 to June 18, 1960. He was stationed aboard the aircraft carrier Tarawa CVS 40 and promoted to Petty Officer 3rd Class BT. Jim started his career in 1967, as a hearing instrument specialist, helping the hard of hearing while working for Beltone Hearing Aid Center in Springfield, MA. In 1970, Beltone Electronics Corporation granted Jim a distributorship in New London. He owned, operated and managed his Beltone Hearing Aid Center practice, which was comprised of three offices serving Tolland, Windam, and New London counties, and located in Rockville, Dayville, and Waterford/New London, respectively.Through continuing education, Jim, affectionately referred to as “Mr. Beltone” by some, was able to provide his hard of hearing customers with up to date information about hearing aid technology. Jim retired in 2003, after being in business for 36 years. He was a member of Connecticut Hearing Aid Dispensers Organization (CHADO), and National Hearing Aid Society (NHAS). He was also board certified through the National Board for Certification in Hearing Instrument Sciences (NBC-HIS). In addition, he earned a degree in Audioprosthology and was licensed to practice in both Connecticut and Rhode Island. Besides his beloved wife Cathy, and his daughter Jacqueline S. Driscoll of Royal Oak, MI, Jim is survived by a former wife Nancy S. Driscoll, his sons James D. Driscoll (Melissa) of SC, Wayne H. Driscoll of Groton, as well as two granddaughters Ariel and Julsea Driscoll, and three grandsons James, Haven, and Jason Driscoll. He also leaves behind a mother-in-law Jeanette Jowdy of Bozrah, brother and sister-in-law Larry and Valerie Chapman of Old Lyme, brothers-in-law Michael Jowdy and Albert Jowdy, several nieces, a nephew, and his cousin, Orville Martin, of Cincinnati, Ohio. He was predeceased by his son Scott Driscoll, and brother-in-law Paul Jowdy. He enjoyed spending time with his family, traveling to the islands, playing poker, and having a martini every now and then. Jim thoroughly enjoyed his life here on earth, and will miss us all. However, we will miss him more. His family will receive friends and relatives on Thursday, November 10, from 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm at the Impellitteri-Malia Funeral Home, 84 Montauk Avenue (Corner of Steward St.), New London. Family will continue to receive friends and relatives at 10:00 am on Friday, November 11, prior to a funeral home service at 11:00 am at the funeral home. Interment will be private.
