Waterford – Hyacinth Marie Kondratowicz of Waterford, passed away April 23, 2021, at home. Hyacinth “Hy” was born July 29, 1931, in The Bronx, N.Y., the daughter of Joseph and Katie Locantore.

On Sundays as a child, her dad would take her and her siblings to The Bronx Zoo, so their mom could cook the sauce and clean the house. The Locantore family moved to New London, when Hyacinth was eleven years old. She graduated from the Williams Memorial Institute (WMI) in 1949. Hyacinth then went on to work at the sub base, where she was voted “Sub Base Charmer,” due to her beauty and charm. It is there that she met the love of life, Paul. They were married at the Mohegan Hotel, April 27, 1957. She also worked for many years as a legal secretary at Waller, Smith & Palmer. Hyacinth put her family first – enjoying Sunday dinners, cooking, baking and traveling with them. She also enjoyed crossword puzzles, crocheting and piano lessons. Every Saturday evening, Hyacinth and Paul had cocktails and played cards with their crew of friends.

She was predeceased by her husband of 63 years, Paul. Paul and all the angels are planning their Heavenly 64th anniversary on April 27th. She is survived by three devoted children, Paula Ball and her husband Bill of Uncasville, Lisa Faber of Waterford and Stephen Kondratowicz of Ledyard; sisters, Lucy Soper and her husband Joseph and Linda McGrath. “Meema” had eight grandchildren: Jen, Cristina, T.J., Lacey, David, Eric, Stephen and Glen; four great-grandchildren: Amya, Isaiah, Cruz and Piper; nephews, Glenn and David Soper; a large extended Italian family. Always together, they played many, many jokes on each other, while enjoying their Italian heritage; and many loving nieces and nephews on Paul’s side.

Her family would like to thank the “Hy Team” for all their nurturing and love. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the amazing Hospice crew at Hartford Healthcare, 227 Dunham Road, Norwich, CT 06360. “Thank you for all your guidance and support!” A public graveside service will be held at 11:30 a.m. Wednesday, April 28, at Saint Mary Cemetery Mausoleum, Jefferson Avenue, New London. Impellitteri-Malia Funeral Home is handling arrangements.
