CHIAPPONE: Harry Anthony Chiappone, Sr., 85 of Waterford entered eternal life on Dec. 24, 2022. He was born Jan. 10, 1937 in New London the son of the late Calogero and Mary (Jullarine) Chiappone. Harry grew up in New London, attended local schools, and graduated from New London High School with a class of over 400 students. During the four years, he had a perfect attendance, never late or absent. Mr. Chiappone was a veteran of the US Coast Guard, and discharged honorably. He joined the New London Police Dept. in 1959, retiring in 1993 after 34 years of service, serving with his two brothers Joseph, Louis, and uncle, Joseph Jullarine. During his time on the Police Dept., he received many letters of commendations from Police Chiefs and citizens groups along with numerous citations. Harry was a member of the State Police Association, Crime Stoppers of CT, Crime Prevention Association, N.L. Police Union Local 724, serving as vice president and treasurer, and assisted in various P.B.A. activities. He received an invitation from the late Senator Bob Dole to meet Vice President Dan Quayle at the White House in Washington D.C., and from Rear Admiral Paul Versaw at the Cost Guard Academy grounds. Harry was a Life member of the Knights of Columbus Seaside Council # 17, N.L. Lodge of Elks #360, and the former Niagara Firehouse. He is survived by three children, Charles Chiappone, Harry Chiappone, Jr. and Laura Brackett, nine grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by four brothers, Santo, Louis, Michael and Joseph Chiappone. Family and friends are to gather for a Mass of Christian Burial on Wednesday at 11 am in St. Joseph Church, New London. Interment is private for immediate family only. The Impellitteri-Malia funeral Home, 84 Montauk Ave., New London, have been entrusted with his care, there are no visiting hours.
