Gwendoline Ivy  Jones

Gwendoline Jones 91 of Waterford passed away on Saturday 7th of October. Gwen was born in Peckham, South London in 1926 to Arthur and Alice Hook. Gwen was the youngest of nine children whom she was the last surviving sibling. She lived in London through world war 2 and witnessed the Battle of Britain and the Blitz. She worked as a seamstress making uniforms for the British troops. After the war she married Reginald Tickner and started a family. In 1954 she and her family emigrated to Adelaide Australia returning to Wiltshire England in 1959.

She was widowed in 1960 and raised her two sons by herself until she remarried to George Jones of New London and moved to the U.S. in 1970. When her husband died in 1981 she moved back to England for many years. In 2000 she returned to the U.S. and lived happily in her home on Fog Plain Rd Waterford until the spring of 2017. In her life Gwen traveled the world and witnessed history being made. She was a loving and devoted wife, mother and grandmother. Her home was always warm and welcoming. Gwen is  survived by her sons Derek Tickner of Waterford and Raymond Tickner of Australia, her daughter Margaret Buckingham of Waterford grandchildren Rhys Tickner of Waterford, Michael Tickner and Roisin Tickner of Australia, and her step son Trevor Jones of New London. Gwen was a member of the Crossroads Presbyterian church of Waterford where she had many dear friends. Gwen always put her family first and was a loving and kind person, she loved all animals especially the two family dogs who always held a special place in her heart. She also loved to watch the birds that came to her many feeders and was a constant supporter of the humane society. Gwen leaves a huge hole in her families hearts and lives and will be missed dearly by them all.
