Waterford – Francisco D. “Frank” Mangual Jr., 48, of Waterford, died unexpectedly May 11, 2021. He was born March 22, 1973, in New York City, the son of Miriam Cerda of Groton, and Roberto Cerda of New York.

He moved to Norwich, at a young age and graduated from Norwich Free Academy, class of 1991. He was united in marriage to the former Kristin Dahl Jan. 6, 2001. Mrs. Mangual survives him. He was employed by the State of Connecticut as a correctional officer, recently retiring at the rank of captain. He was also employed by New London Recreation Department for many years as a supervisor.

Besides his beloved wife Kristin, he is survived by three children, Michael Mangual of California, and Jacob and Alexis Mangual both of Waterford; two siblings, Melody Morales of New York, and Michael Cerda of Norwich.

Frank enjoyed watching his kids play sports for many years. He also loved being a basketball coach to his children and many other children in the town of Waterford. Frank was very involved in the community and was a staple to the Neil Hoelck Tournament. He was looking forward to coach his nephews and niece once they started playing sports. Frank was an avid golfer and throughly enjoyed going to his favorite golf course near our home in Vero Beach.

His family will receive relatives and friends from 3 to 6 p.m. Wednesday, May 19, at the Impellitteri-Malia Funeral Home, 84 Montauk Ave., New London. Interment services are private. In lieu of flowers, please donate to Frank’s children’s college fund, c/o Citizens Bank, 117 Boston Post Road, Waterford.
