Eric Rocco Johnson, 52, of Stonington, passed away peacefully surrounded by his family at Lawrence and Memorial Hospital in New London on Saturday, August 11, 2018. Eric was born in New London on November 9, 1965 (during the “big blackout!”) to Bernice (Everett) Johnson and the late Richard A. Johnson. Eric attended East Lyme High School and went on to be a self-taught carpenter. He owned his own home improvement business and was highly regarded as a meticulous craftsman. Word of mouth alone kept him very busy and customers were always willing to wait for him. Eric enjoyed cooking and watching football, rooting heavily for the Steelers. When he wasn’t riding his Harley, he loved listening to music (constantly quoting lyrics from The Eagles with his brother Rich) and frequented many concerts, especially The Grateful Dead. Lastly, Eric lived for and was in the constant company of family and friends. Eric loved everyone he came in contact with and always made a lasting impression. Anyone who was ever hugged by Eric will attest to his affection! His family and friends certainly loved him and we will all miss him dearly. Eric is survived by his mother, Bernice LoPresti of Bristol, his brother Richard Johnson and his wife Donna of Terryville, his sister, Cindy of Fort Pierce, FL, step-mother Shirley Johnson of Plainfield, companion Virginia Gencarelli of Stonington, and many aunts, uncles and cousins. He was predeceased by his father, Richard A. Johnson of Plainfield and his step-father, Joseph LoPresti of Port St. Lucie, FL. The funeral will be Friday at 2pm at the Impellitteri-Malia Funeral Home, 84 Montauk Avenue. The burial is private. Calling hours will precede the service from 12noon – 2pm.
