Donald Q. Britt Jr., 71, of Groton entered eternal life on Tuesday, May 10, 2016.

He was born Sept. 5, 1944, in New London, the son of the late Donald and Santa (Spinnato) Britt Sr. Donald was a Vietnam veteran serving in the U.S. Navy and was honorably discharged. He was united in marriage to the former Cynthia Barbour on Nov. 19, 1987 in Quaker Hill Baptist Church; Mrs. Britt survives him.

Don worked as a security officer at Lawrence + Memorial Hospital for many years, retiring in December of 2015 due to illness. He was formerly employed as a civil service, working at the US Naval Submarine Base in Groton, retiring after 38 years. He was a member of the Niantic Sportsman Club, an avid NASCAR fan and a season ticket holder for UConn women’s basketball, whom he followed faithfully.

Besides his beloved wife Cindy of 28 year, he is survived by two children, Jamie Thomas and Donald Britt III, both of South Carolina; two stepchildren, Harry Reed Jr. of Waterford and Melissa Savage of Griswold; two siblings, Linda Morrison of New London and Jeannie Hall of Arkansas; and nine grandchildren.

A memorial service will take place at 11 a.m. Saturday at the Christian Fellowship Church, 140 Pudding Hill Road, Scotland. Interment in St. Mary Cemetery will be private.
