Waterford – We are saddened by the loss of our mother, Carolyn M. Luzi, Waterford, who died peacefully Oct. 8, 2021, at the age of 93. Born on Sept 7, 1928, in Norwich, to Merle Conklin and William F. Mahler, she was married to Raymond L. Luzi of New London, for 58 years; and later to Ernest Litty of Naples, Fla. Carolyn and her husband Ray were the owners of the Norge Oil Company in New London. After selling the company, Carolyn completed a real estate assessor course and became the assistant assessor for the City of New London.

She is survived by a sister, Jacquelyn Forrest; and brothers, William Mahler, Richard Mahler and David Mahler – all residing in Arizona.

An avid reader, bridge player, gardener and cook, Carolyn was on a constant quest for learning. She loved traveling, current events, the History Channel and was tech savvy for a person of her age. She enjoyed cheering her grandchildren on in their many sporting activities. She attended church services regularly and loved reading the Bible. Her winters were spent in Naples, Fla., and the summers at her home in Waterford, near her family.

Carolyn will be remembered by her family through the many traditions and values she instilled in all of us. From the family pasta and ravioli making, to her gardening activities, she always made certain that our refrigerators were stocked and our bellies full. As we reflect and celebrate her beautiful life, these are the memories we will carry with us for generations to come.

Survived by Carolyn are her four children: Pamela Wolejko married to Paul Wolejko of East Lyme, Sharon O’Reilly of Newport Beach, Calif., Robin Shine married to Russell Shine of Waterford, and Raymond Luzi, husband of Julia Luzi of Niantic. Her seven grandchildren include Megan Szczensy of Madison, Lindsey Wolejko of West Hartford, Whitney Ohmart of Pawcatuck, Alexandra Shine of Boston, Daniel Shine of Westbrook, Kathryn Luzi of Deerfield Beach, Fla., and Will Luzi of Niantic. In addition, she has four great-granddaughters.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, Oct. 13, at Impellitteri-Malia Funeral Home on 84 Montauk Avenue, New London. Viewing hours will be from 4 to 7 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 12. Donations can be made in Carolyn’s name to the Town of Waterford/ Waterford Senior Services, 15 Rope Ferry Road, Waterford Ct. 06385.
