Anna Sabra Tortora, 102, beloved mother and grandmother died on Friday, February 5, 2016 at Bayview Health Care Center in Waterford surrounded by her family. She was born in Fall River, Mass on February 19, 1913, daughter of the late Charles and Freda Sabra.

She married the late Lucius “Sully” Tortora July 23,1934 where she built a life in New London with their two children, Theresa Doar of Florida, and Lucius G Tortora of Georgia. She is also survived by her Grandchildren Eileen Hanes and husband Russell, Camille McNicholas and husband Brian, Laurieann Elci and husband Douglas, Michael Tudisca, Santos Tudisca and a sister, Alma Miclette. Numerous Great Grandchildren also survive her. Her brothers, Richard and George and Sisters Mae and Suzie, predeceased her.

Anna devoted her life to her husband, children, and grandchildren. She was a devote Catholic and made sure she said the Rosary daily for all of her family and friends. The Holiday dinners, Sunday dinners, and Birthday cakes that she would make her family was made with love and dedication. Anna was a member of the Daughters of Isabella’s Father Brennan Circle for over 70 years. Anna was a caretaker and always wanted to be a nurse. Always thinking about everyone else. Afte r her husband passed away and she survived cancer, Anna worked as a volunteer Grandparent and also at Bayview Health Care for 22 years. She loved delivering mail to everyone, praying the Rosary, calling out Bingo numbers and visiting with all the residents. She retired at age 92.

We will always remember our Granny as the beautiful, caring and kind woman that she was.

We would like to thank the staff at Bayveiw Healthcare Center for being such a dedicated staff to our Granny for the past 8 years. A special thank you to all the CNA’s and Nurses for making her feel comfortable and peaceful.

Her family will receive relatives and friends on Monday morning from 9:30 am to 10:30 am at the Impellitteri-Malia Funeral Home 84 Montauk Ave. New London. Followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 11 am, in St. Mary Star of the Sea Church. Interment will be in St Mary Cemetery, New London.
