Ambrose Villano, Jr.: 97, formerly of Groton entered eternal life on Aug. 2, 2023, comforted by his wife. He was born May 7, 1926, in New London, the son of the late Ambrose and Domenica (Barca) Villano, Sr. Ambrose bravely fought for his country in WW II as a soldier of the 103rd Infantry Division, fighting in the European Theater in the Rhineland. There, he was wounded in action and received the Purple Heart for his courage and sacrifice. He was a true hero and an inspiration to us all. When he returned home, he found his soulmate in the beautiful Rose Marie Spadaro, whom he married on June 11, 1949, in St. Joseph Church. She was his faithful companion and his greatest joy until the end.

Ambrose worked for many years in the heating industry, before starting his own business, Ambrose Burner Service. He retired with pride and satisfaction after serving his customers well. He also dedicated his time and courage to the former F&L Allan Hook & Ladder Fire Co. as a volunteer firefighter and was a proud member of the VFW Post 189 in New London and the Disabled American Veterans. He cherished his wife Rose, who was his partner in life for 74 years, and his four children: Carol Fox (Larry) of Pittsfield, Susan Casper of Cape Coral, Darlene Dwire (Jack) of Waterford, and James Villano, Sr. (Diane) of Waterford. He was a loving grandfather to seven grandchildren, and a doting great-grandfather to five great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by five siblings: Frederick, Mariano and Rosario Villano, Mary Smith and Mildred Dickey, and son-in-law, Robin Casper. He will be deeply missed by all who knew him.

His family invites relatives and friends to join them in honoring his life and legacy on Wednesday, August 9th, from 4 to 6 pm at the Impellitteri-Malia Funeral Home, 84 Montauk Ave., New London. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Thursday, August 10th, at 11 am, in St. Joseph Church, 149 Montauk Ave., New London. Interment to follow in St. Mary Cemetery where he will be laid to rest with military honors.
